When I started this project i was trying to produce work based on that of Oleg Dou and Desiree Dolron. I first sourced an image form google from which to work and brought it into photoshop to try and workout how the effect was achieved. I knew the skin had to be pail and smoothed of all the detail present on the skin. To do this i duplicated the image and applied a Gaussian blur filter to the new layer. I then used Layer masks to glen the blurred layer and the original layer together so that the skin was smoothed without loosing detail else where on the face. In order to whiten the skin I original would paint on a new layer in white and set the blend mode to soft light so that the white wasn't to over powering. But I eventually discovered an easier way to make the subjects skin paler. Instead of adding white over the top of the original image it was easier to duplicate the original image and then greyscale it (make it B&W). after doing that, setting the grayscale layer blend mode to soft light. this was easier then painting over the image and produced better results. But in the end i was still dissatisfied with the look of my image so at that point i had to take my project in a different direction.
